Kellie & Shannon <3

Okay y’all, these guys are getting married in April. I don’t normally do blog posts this soon after taking the actual photos… (and I also have not done a blog post in like a year, but we aren’t going to talk about that) I just can’t help myself.

These guys took Jonathan and I to the spot where they got engaged last weekend for some engagement photos. Here are the results. Hopefully you can look at these and see the love and friendship they share. Its kind of awesome.

A big thank you to my sweet husband who goes on these adventures with me and helps me get shots like these two ^. I was struggling with getting the exposure right on these and he was able to expose for the sky and get these great silhouette shots. 🙂

I hate that we are going to miss your wedding, but you two are going to have such a magical day.

Lauren & Ali – engagements !!

I’ve known Lauren, since… 2010. We worked together at American Family Insurance as the faces of our agency. In the year and a half we worked together, we got so close. Like, super close. You know when you are having a stomach problem and you need to talk about it to someone? That kind of close, in detail.

Lauren and Ali went to high school together but were never really close friends. Thankfully, Facebook came to rescue and rekindled them. I remember when Lauren went on her first date with Ali. They were supposed to be going on a hike at Kennesaw Mountain Park, and Lauren was really concerned about 2 things.
1. What to wear
2. What if he’s a really intense hiker and I pass out? 🙂

Luckily she didn’t pass out, and they’ve been together ever since!
What, 2 1/2 years later? They went on one of their traditional hikes and Ali gets down on one knee and proposed to her.

Here are some photos from their session a few weeks ago.

And now the best part of these engagement photos… we were going to standard “Train track” photos… but then a real train came. I just LOVE the movement in the background. Ooh la-la.

I love you guys, and can’t wait to see how pretty/ handsome you will be on your big day (my birthday), we’re gonna party, harty!

Lizzy, Brenden & the Magical Land of Faeries.

The day after Jonathan and I got back from our honeymoon, I took these engagement photos for my friends, Brenden and Lizzy. The end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012 were so hard for scheduling. I was planning my own wedding, working full time in insurance, and still wanted to do photography on the side… I didn’t want to let anyone down but still wanted to keep my sanity… hard line to maintain sometimes.

BUT I did it. Can I say that again? I did it! 🙂

I had been reading Jose Villa’s book, Fine Are Wedding Photography: How to Capture Images with Style for the Modern Bride, for a while and let me tell you, its amazing. Whether or not you want to be a wedding photographer this book gives you excellent insight on several big photo taking questions and how the business works. I loved it. Plus, the guy is a genius.

Anyway, since I had been reading this book, I was trying to pay attention to my light. Where it was going, where it was coming from and how I should be using it to get the image I wanted. These photos are very light and airy to me, which make them feel ethereal. I love them, to say the least.

Brenden and Lizzy are an outdoorsy couple. They hike, camp, and play with fire, so it only made sense we do something outside. We showcased their Vibrams in a beautiful covered bridge and headed to a magical waterfall through the woods. This place is actually an old mill turned into a public park where you can walk, run, or explore. I had never been there until these guys took me there and when I saw the background I instantly fell in love! It was perfect for them.

On the way back to the car, I noticed where the light was and how it was haloing their heads. I had to make them stop and do a few photos and they ended up being my favorites of the whole night.

Love you guys!

Anna & Justin.

This post is about some of my two favorite country people. Anna & Justin! Anna was my suite mate my freshman year and we had our fall outs during that time, but we LOVE each other now. 🙂 Or at least, I love her.

Anna and Justin were my first couple/ engagement shoot ever, and still one of my favorites to this day. We went to different places (one of which was a carousel). They had a vision of who they were and how they wanted to portray it. Well, Anna did at least, and Justin got boiled peanuts out of it, so everyone was a happy camper 😉 (that will be another post, for another day).

When Anna asked me to drive an hour away for their Christmas photos in the country and I was more than happy to do it! See, they live in the part of Georgia where cows and animals roam and when it gets dark, it really gets dark. I love it visiting there. Its so quiet and peaceful. Their side porch is a view of her dad’s sod farm and their front porch is a field and a mountain. Its absolutely gorgeous. I would sit on my porch all day in a swivel chair to get both sides of the house, ( yes, I’d be that person).

My favorite part of being around Anna is making/seeing her laugh. The third photo down shows Anna laughing really hard and its just so her, the only thing missing is a sound effect. When she laughs really hard, she kind of stops breathing out and sucks the air back into her mouth, rather than blowing out and making a noise like most people. Its the sweetest thing and I love it when it happens. So naturally when I’m around her I try to do funny things to get her going ;). Her husband is pretty good about getting her laughing too, which is probably one reason they got married and work so well together. I’ve never seen the guy get upset, he’s got such a cool and calm attitude about him its crazy (but also awesome).

I love these two!

Zack & Chelsea – The Engagement Story.

Engagement story!

Engagement story!

This past March I got to do some sneaking around with one of my favorite dudes, Zack! He texted me one day and asked if I could keep a secret. I immediately knew what this meant. RING!! RING!! 😉 He mentioned wanting to propose to his sweet, girlfriend Chelsea and it needed to be captured with out her being suspicious. Luckily, we had previously tried to do couples pictures before, but it was so unbearably cold, we wussed out. So, we needed a make up day, right?

We schemed a fairly easy plan, to take pictures like the first time, except this time some cute chalkboard signs were involved. We walked around in the beautiful March weather, snapping photos with Chelsea being none the wiser.

I didn’t want the proposal to be too public, because while I believe in the documentation, I don’t believe in ruining the emotions that happen when you’re proposed to with gawking bystanders. You should be able to remember and be in that moment you only get to experience once. Your proposal, so if you feel the need to cry, you can.

We found this cute alley and they wrote little sweet things, one of which was, “As you wish…” from The Princess Bride. Which, if you knew Zack before he started dating Chelsea, he was very much a guy who didn’t see himself settling down for a while. He had dreams of adventure and travel – not to say he doesn’t have dreams now, but now, his dreams involve his fiancé. Chelsea somehow appeared and taught him the ways of love. So, the “As you wish…” was very fitting because this dude loves this girl.

Anyway, we did a shot where Chelsea stood behind being all sassy, and Zack wrote, “I’m about to propose!” and then he did!

As I’m shooting their proposal, I’m thinking of mine and my (then) upcoming wedding to my amazing husband of a man. I’m tearing up, Chelsea is crying and I just wanted to shout from the mountain tops. 😉

I love this couple, they are some of my favorite people and I can’t wait for their wedding!!
